Overview
Beginning at Fort Clinch on Amelia Island, this route shows how coastal forts and waterways shaped Union and Confederate strategy in Northeast Florida. It then follows the defensive landscape around Jacksonville through Yellow Bluff Fort and Camp Milton, where surviving earthworks reveal the scale of Confederate efforts to protect transportation corridors and approaches to the city. The final stop is Olustee Battlefield, site of Florida’s largest Civil War battle. The route moves from fixed coastal defense to field fortifications and finally to open battle, creating a clear military narrative while also highlighting the importance of railroads, ports, and interior roads during the war.
