About F.D. Roosevelt State Park

F.D. Roosevelt State Park protects more than 10,000 acres along Pine Mountain and preserves a landscape closely associated with Franklin D. Roosevelt's years in west-central Georgia. Roosevelt visited nearby Warm Springs beginning in the 1920s and used Dowdell's Knob, now within the park, as a favorite picnic and retreat location. The park also contains substantial New Deal-era resources built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, including cottages and the stone Liberty Bell swimming pool.

Visitors can hike more than 40 miles of trails, drive to Dowdell's Knob and its life-size Roosevelt sculpture, explore CCC-built facilities, camp, fish, paddle, picnic, or swim seasonally at the historic Liberty Bell Pool. The park is valuable as both a recreational landscape and a place where Roosevelt's Georgia connections and the physical legacy of New Deal conservation work can be experienced together.

Park open daily 7:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.; park office 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Dowdell's Knob is open 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. April–September and 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. October–March. In 2026, Liberty Bell Pool is open May 23–25, 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; May 27–August 2, Wednesday–Sunday 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; and August 8–September 6, Saturday–Sunday 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., with Labor Day opening.

Admission

No per-person general park admission; a $10 daily ParkPass per vehicle is required. Liberty Bell Pool admission is separate: General $7; Seniors 65+ $5; Children under 3 $3; Military with ID $6.
