Fort Revere Park

Fort Revere Park occupies Telegraph Hill in Hull, a strategically important point overlooking Boston Harbor. The hill served as an early lookout and was fortified during the American Revolution as Fort Independence, where American and French forces helped defend the harbor. In the late nineteenth century the site was redeveloped as Fort Revere, becoming part of the modern coastal-defense system and remaining in military use through the world-war era.

Today visitors can walk among surviving concrete batteries, military remains, memorials, and the exterior of the prominent 1903 water and observation tower while taking in broad harbor views. The park also provides picnic tables and grills. A former officers’ quarters has housed a military-history museum, but reliable current public hours for interior access are not published, so the consistently available experience is the outdoor historic landscape.
