About Framingham History Center
Framingham History Center is a local-history museum, research organization, and community gathering place occupying three historic buildings around Framingham Centre Common. Its principal exhibition space is the 1872 Edgell Memorial Library, Framingham’s first freestanding public library and a memorial to local Civil War service. The campus also includes the Old Academy, which houses the research library, and Village Hall on the Common, used for programs and events.
Established in 1888, the organization preserves a substantial collection covering more than 400 years of Framingham history and presents rotating exhibitions, lectures, educational programs, and community events. Visitors normally see onsite exhibitions in the Edgell Memorial Library, while researchers can arrange access to resources in the Old Academy. The main galleries are temporarily closed for renovation and exhibition installation and are scheduled to reopen on August 27, 2026, with a new exhibition.
