Intrepid Museum

The Intrepid Museum is centered on USS Intrepid, an Essex-class aircraft carrier commissioned in 1943 that served in the Pacific during World War II, survived five kamikaze attacks and a torpedo strike, and later operated during the Cold War and the Vietnam War. The ship also supported the United States space program as a recovery vessel for NASA astronauts. Preserved at Pier 86, Intrepid provides a large-scale setting for understanding naval operations, technology, and the experiences of the tens of thousands of sailors who served aboard her.

General admission includes the carrier, the Space Shuttle Pavilion with Enterprise, the Cold War-era guided-missile submarine Growler, historic aircraft, and temporary exhibitions. Visitors can move through the hangar and flight decks, examine military and civilian aircraft, explore naval living and working spaces, and connect maritime history with the development of aviation and spaceflight. Optional guided tours, films, virtual-reality experiences, and simulators are available for additional fees, making the museum a particularly strong destination for families, veterans, technology enthusiasts, and visitors interested in twentieth-century history.
