About National Center for Civil and Human Rights
The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is a downtown Atlanta museum devoted to the American Civil Rights Movement and the broader global history and practice of human rights. Its exhibitions place Atlanta’s role in the movement within a national story of segregation, nonviolent protest, organizing, resistance, and social change, while also inviting visitors to consider contemporary human-rights questions.
Major experiences include the "Rolls Down Like Water" civil rights gallery, its immersive lunch-counter experience, the Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection, the Reconstruction-focused "Broken Promises" gallery, and exhibitions on international human rights. Multimedia, artifacts, recreated environments, testimony, and interactive displays make the Center especially valuable for visitors who want both historical context and a direct, emotionally engaging museum experience.
