About Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library
Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library preserves the former Delaware country estate of collector and horticulturist Henry Francis du Pont. The museum’s 175-room house holds an exceptional collection of American decorative arts, with nearly 90,000 objects made or used in America since 1640, while the surrounding estate includes a 60-acre naturalistic garden within roughly 1,000 acres of meadows, woodlands, ponds, and waterways.
Visitors can explore changing exhibitions, self-guided and guided house experiences, garden and estate tram tours, walking trails, and the Enchanted Woods children’s garden. Winterthur is also a major center for scholarship through its research library and conservation and academic programs, making it especially valuable for travelers interested in American material culture, architecture, design, collecting, and landscape history.
