Overview
"This one-day route explores the long Black history of Little Rock before focusing on the events that made the city a defining place in the modern civil rights movement. Mosaic Templars Cultural Center introduces Arkansas African American history through the legacy of a Black fraternal organization founded in Little Rock and through broader stories of community, business, culture, and citizenship. The route centers on Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, where the 1957 desegregation crisis became a national test of federal authority and equal protection. It concludes at the Arkansas State Capitol, where exhibits and the nearby Testament monument connect the Little Rock Nine and Daisy and L. C. Bates to the state’s public memory. Together, the stops show how institutions, activists, students, and government intersected in the struggle over civil rights."
