About Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park
Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park preserves a collection of sites in Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn neighborhood associated with Dr. King’s life and the modern Civil Rights Movement. The park includes his Birth Home, Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Historic Fire Station No. 6, and other cultural resources that help visitors understand the family, church, neighborhood, and community institutions that shaped his early life and later leadership.
The Birth Home reopened to the public on July 4, 2026 after a major preservation and rehabilitation project. Free ranger-led Birth Home tours are limited to 15 visitors and are registered on the day of the tour at Historic Fire Station No. 6, which is serving as the temporary visitor center while the main visitor center undergoes improvements. Visitors can also explore Ebenezer Baptist Church and ranger programs throughout the park, making the site one of the strongest place-based experiences for understanding Dr. King and Atlanta’s civil rights history.
