National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios

The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios is an active Catholic pilgrimage site on the St. Augustine waterfront. The grounds commemorate the Spanish landing of 1565 and the celebration of a Mass connected with the city's founding. Mission Nombre de Dios developed during the Spanish colonial period, and by the early seventeenth century a chapel here was dedicated to Nuestra Señora de La Leche y Buen Parto, or Our Lady of the Milk and Happy Delivery. The site was designated a national shrine in 2019.

Visitors can walk the mission grounds, enter the historic chapel and Shrine Church, visit the museum and gift shop, and see the 208-foot Great Cross, Rosary Garden, outdoor devotional spaces, and monuments associated with St. Augustine's Catholic heritage. The grounds remain a place of worship and reflection as well as a historical destination, so visitors may encounter scheduled Masses, confessions, pilgrimages, and religious events.
