Cape Canaveral Lighthouse

Cape Canaveral Lighthouse is a cast-iron coastal tower completed in 1868 to replace an earlier, shorter brick light. Shoreline erosion threatened its original position, so the tower was dismantled and moved about a mile inland in 1893 and 1894, returning to service at its present site in July 1894. It remains an active aid to navigation, owned by the United States Space Force and maintained by the United States Coast Guard.

Because the lighthouse stands inside Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, it can be visited only on an authorized, prescheduled tour. Depending on the selected itinerary and operating conditions, visitors may enter the tower, reach interior levels and an exterior platform, tour the replica Keeper's Cottage museum, walk the historic grounds and see early rocket and missile hardware in neighboring Hangar C. The unusual setting makes the lighthouse a compelling place to experience the transition from nineteenth-century navigation to twentieth-century missile testing and spaceflight.
