Sands Space History Center

Sands Space History Center is the publicly accessible extension of the Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum, located just outside the south gate of Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. Formerly called the Air Force Space and Missile History Center, it was renamed for Major General Harry J. "Bud" Sands Jr., who proposed creating a museum dedicated to Cape Canaveral's space history.

Inside, visitors can follow the history of the station's launch complexes through interpretive displays and examine artifacts connected to missiles, satellites and crewed-spaceflight programs. The collection includes items associated with Atlas, Jupiter, Titan, Gemini, Mercury and Apollo-era work, and the building also contains a gift shop and restrooms, with a shaded picnic area outside. Because no station pass or guided tour is required, the center is an accessible starting point for understanding the Cape before joining a restricted-site tour.
