About Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum
Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum occupies historic facilities at Launch Complex 26 and includes nearby sites associated with the earliest American missile and crewed-spaceflight programs. Launch Complex 26 sent Explorer 1, the first successful United States satellite, into orbit in 1958, while Launch Complex 5/6 supported the Mercury-Redstone flights that carried Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom into space in 1961. The museum opened in 1966 and was renamed from the Air Force Space and Missile Museum in 2022.
Authorized tours can include the Launch Complex 26 exhibit hall and blockhouse, launch-pad structures, an outdoor rocket garden and preserved equipment connected to Redstone, Jupiter, Juno and other early programs. Longer itineraries may also enter the restored Launch Complex 5/6 blockhouse and visit additional historic sites around the station. Seeing original launch infrastructure in place offers a perspective on Cold War missile development and the beginnings of the United States space program that cannot be reproduced in a conventional indoor museum.
